Being once one of the nation’s top college football players at Nebraska, former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips was convicted by a Superior Court of assault and six other felony charges in San Diego.
Phillips was released by the St. Louis Rams in 1997 for insubordination and then went on to play for the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. He also used to play in NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League. He was put into prison to serve a 10-year sentence for hitting three teenagers with his car in Los Angeles in 2005.
After that Phillips was accused of choking his girlfriend on two occasions in August 2005, once into unconsciousness. The seven counts will bring him up to 25 years of imprisonment after he is sentenced next month.
