Bengals DT Johnson will stay in Cincinnati for another four years

At the end of the old one-year contract, veteran defensive tackle Tank Johnson was happily given the chance to play for the Cincinnati Bengals for another four years. A four-year contract has been signed between the two sides.


Taking off the Dallas Cowboys jerseys, Johnson was traded to the Bengals before the 2009 season. Despite a case of plantar fasciitis in his right foot that limited his mobility and caused a lot of pain, he still managed to star 13 games last season and tied for the team lead with 10 tackles in a playoff loss to the New York Jets.

Finishing fourth overall in defense and seventh against run last season, the Bengals believe that one season for the improvement in their run defense was Johnson, who played an important part in the team’s line rotation.

Bengals may retain two unrestricted free agents

As both safety Roy Williams and defensive tackle Tank Johnson is turning to be unrestricted free agents, the Cincinnati Bengals begin to take action so that both could continue wearing the Bengals jerseys for 2010 season. Talks about new contract have been going on between the team and agents.

According to information released on the Bengals’ official Web site, Williams’ agent has been discussing a new contract with team officials. And the team has also offered a contract to Johnson, who is currently represented by Drew Rosenhaus. Imminent deals are not likely but it is likely that both will eventually stay in Cincinnati.

Besides Williams and Johnson, the Bengals are also in need to prepare for contract negotiations with other in-house free agents including kicker Shayne Graham and offensive guard Bobbie Williams.

Bears DT Harris inactive Sunday with sore left knee

The Chicago Bears played Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals without defensive tackle Tommie Harris, who had a sore left knee and listed as inactive for the game along with running back Adrian Peterson (different person from the running back in Vikings jersey), who also had a bad knee.

It was not surprise to see Harris inactive Sunday as he had missed team’s practice all last week. Also it was not surprise to see the Bears lost to the Bengals at 45-10 as the team’s linebacking unit got shuffled again with Pisa Tinolsamoa’s having knee injury. The Bears moved Hunter Hillenmeyer from middle to outside and had Nick Roach start in the middle.

Compared to Bears, the Bengals’ loss seemed much loss. Safety Roy Williams missed his second straight game on Sunday with a forearm injury but linebacker Domata Peko, who sprained his left knee last week, returned to team and started against the Bears.

“If you can’t fly here to chill with me you can with this app,” the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco informed fans through a post on his Twitter account. A new application was created on his iPhone with the help of teammate Jordan Palmer.


Through the new application, Ochocinco fans only needs to pay $4.99 to follow his daily exploits in photos, videos and tweets. They can ask his advice on dating or anything else, send their own photos for posting, and track where he is each day when he’s on the road. They can follow media-savvy receiver all the time whether wearing a Bengals jersey or not.

Jordan Palmer, the younger brother of Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, said the application will parallel what Chad does on the field. Of course, his company spent months making the application, which is by so far the most ambitious apps created by the company, which Palmer and two of his friends formed to create apps for athletes and entertainers.

Bengals TE Kelly ruptured tendon

On Monday morning, the Bengals tight end Reggie Kelly ruptured his tendon. His injury was the team's first significant injury of training camp and a notable setback to the team's offense, which finished last in last NFL season.


Kelly will have a surgery on Wednesday and be sidelined for at least six months after the surgery. The injury was the 11-year veteran's first major injury. Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said that he felt it freak thing for losing a good player who has spent six seasons with the team. As the third receiver on the team last season with 31 catches for 207 yards, Kelly's being injured opens the way for Ben Utecht to show off, who has been waiting since he put on bengals jersey.

Without Kelly being present, the Bengals were counting on first-round pick Andre Smith to start at right tackle, but Smith has not reported for camp and missed the first four days of practice because of contract dispute.
