A three-year contract brought free agent tackle Green to Bills

A night after free agent offensive tackle Cornell Green visited to the Buffalo Bills, he was convinced to sign a three-year contract with the team, becoming the free agent who was signed by the Bills since the free agency began on Friday.

The 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds Green said the team has offered him starting job at right tackle, making him the replacement to Brad Butler who retired last month. Green is believed to be able to fit in that position as he had been a starting right tackle in the Oakland Raiders jersey for the last three seasons.

“I’m glad to have an opportunity to play over here. There’s a proud history of tradition here,” said Green during a teleconference call shortly after signing his contract. “I had opportunities to visit a couple of more teams, but at the end of the day, man, Buffalo made me feel real comfortable.”

Green’s signing is considered a start for restructure of the team under rookie general manager Buddy Nix and new Coach Chan Gailey, who are determined to improve a team that was young and riddled with injuries last season.

Brohm will start at QB for Bills against Falcons

Second-year quarterback Brian Brohm is expected to make his first start since putting on NFL jersey when Buffalo travels to Atlanta on Sunday, because ankle injuries will keep starter Ryan Fitzpatrick and backup Trent Edwards out for this week.

As Edwards isn’t expected to play again this season because of a high ankle sprain, Brohm is likely to get more chance to start in case Fitzpatrick is injured.

Brohm was signed off the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad last month, and has not even taken a snap in practice with the Bills. His work has been limited to reps with the scout team.

Interim coach Perry Fewell had said Brohm didn’t know the offense well enough to run it effectively. But with the team officially out of the playoffs, some in the organization believe it is time to see what Brohm, a 2008 second-round pick, can do.

As CB Terrence McGee has been placed on season-ending injury reserve because of a shoulder injury, Reggie Corner will start at cornerback, with Ashton Youboty being the nickel corner.

Fitzpatrick will remain Bills starter for one more week

The Buffalo Bills Coach Dick Jauron announce Monday that Trent Edwards will miss his second straight game since suffering a concussion, that means backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the Bills starter for one more week.


But Jauron refused to commit to who will start once Edwards is healthy enough to play. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” Jauron said. However, Jauron forgot to even mention Edwards when reviewing his list of injured players, indicating that Fitzpatrick may be the starter for longer time. That would be reasonable even Edwards has been cleared to work out this week, because the team must take a conservative approach in dealing with a player who sustained his second concussion in a little over a year.

Fitzpatrick, signed by Buffalo as a free agent this offseason has won five straight games, including three wins last year while he was playing in the Cincinnati Bengals jersey as replacement to injured starter Carson Palmer. And in the last two games playing in place of Edwards, Fitzpatrick went 21 of 47 for 239 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Perhaps he is not as good as Edwards, but he has managed to impress people with efficiency in protecting the ball, with taking shots down field and producing scoring drives by taking advantage of a turnover-happy defense.

Four more Bills players left field with injuries during Sunday game

The Buffalo Bills won the home opener over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by 33-20 on Sunday, but with the cost of four more injured players including right tackle Brad Butler, tight end Derek Schouman, starting cornerback Leodis McKelvin and rookie tight end Shawn Nelson.


So it was really not an easy victory. Butler hurt his right knee late in the first half when Buccaneers defensive lineman Stylez White rolled into back of his legs. He was cart off in his intact bills jersey the field and did not return. Third-year tackle Jonathan Scott then took over in Butler’s place. And Schouman and Nelson’s leaving made Derek Fine being the Bills only one tight end on the field. McKelvin was seen limping off the field after Carnell Williams scored on an 8-yard touchdown pass to cut Buffalo’s lead to 20-14 with 27 seconds left in the first half. But fortunately, the Bills finally made it to win.

According to the Bills Coach Dick Jauron, the status of the four injured players needed to be evaluated after having further tests. So it is still uncertain whether any one of the four would be able to play the Bills home game against the New Orleans Saints next weekend.

Bills RB Jackson felt better with sprained wrist and would not miss season opener

After a test showed that there was no serious injury to his left wrist, the Bills running back Fred Jackson took a load off mind for knowing that the sprain would not keep him out of the regular season opener.


“It was a little scary yesterday when I first did it, but I feel fine right now,” Jackson said. “That’s always a good thing when the X-rays come back negative, so I’m enthusiastic about that.”

The Bills shared the same feeling. Because their starter Marshawn Lynch was suspended by the NFL for the first three regular games, Jackson and veteran Dominc Rhodes will play the starting role for the first three games. It was really important for Jackson to keep healthy.

Jackson also planned to test the injury though practicing on Thursday. If everything will be ok, he will play in the Bills’ third preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.

T.O. will not be available for preseason game on Saturday

Since Terrell Owens jammed his toe Hall of Fame Game last Sunday, he has missed a whole week of practice and will still miss the Buffalo Bills' preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday.


The wide receiver tweeted recently that he would like to be back as soon as Monday, but Bills Coach Dick Jauron told reporters that the team still had no timetable for when Owens should resume practicing. Jauron admitted that Owens’ toe is healing, but the team just does not want to take any risk of aggravating the injury by resuming practice too early.

Owens was signed by the Bills in March with a one-year, $6.5 million contract after he was released by the Dallas Cowboys. He had two catches for 27 yards in his Bills debut and did not help the team beat the Tennessee Titans in Hall of Fame Game.
