Finally, it’s the Giants who obtained safety Rolle

The Pro Bowl safety Antrel Rolle will be in the New York Giants jersey for the 2010 season as he has signed a five-year, $37 million contract with the Giants on the first day of free agency, one day after he was released by the Arizona Cardinals, also made an offer to retain the safety but was refused.


“I’m ecstatic,” the 27-year-old Rolle said. “Words can’t really express how I feel now. I had five great years with the Cardinals organization. But I felt it was time for a change. The Giants are a first-class organization all the way. There are great opportunities for me, and I am excited to be working with the players I’ll be working with. I think the sky’s going to be the limit as to what we can do.”

Spending all of his first five seasons only with the Cardinals, Rolle has played in 68 regular season games with 59 starts with career totals of 337 tackles, 12 interceptions, 36 passes defended, three forced fumbles and 1.5 sacks. He has also returned four interceptions for touchdowns. His joining filled in time the Giants’ hole at the position after Kenny Phillips was placed on IR with a serious knee injury early last season.

Giants RB Brandon will not play against Vikings because of surgery

The New York Giants running back Brandon Jacob will not be available in his Giants jersey for this Sunday’s season-ending game against the Minnesota Vikings, as an injury to his right knee requires him to have surgery.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin on Wednesday announced that Jacobs will have arthroscopic surgery next week. The coach said Jacobs has had problems with the knee at times this season, but a recent examination showed he needed surgery.


To be replaced by Ahmad Bradshaw, Jacob had been leading the Giants in rushing for the past two seasons. Having an inconsistent year, he totally rushed for 835 yards on 224 carries, with yards per rush slipping more than a yard to 3.7 yards a carry.

Giants RB Bradshaw will play despite foot injury

After flying to North Carolina to be examined by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson and after the doctor told him that a bone on the right foot could break if he continues playing football, the New York Giants backup running back Ahmad Bradshaw decided to continue playing this season.


The third-year running back, who has gained 455 yard rushing, has seemingly known about the injury since the spring but he has played in pain. Dr. Robert Anderson confirmed the diagnosis by Giants physicians: a cracked fifth metatarsal. It’s a bone that runs along the outside the foot between the ankle and the toes. But he just hopes that he could finish his third NFL season without aggravating the injury.

“I just plan on going out there and giving it my all and if it breaks, it does,” Bradshaw said. “I’ll get surgery. If not, I’ll wait to the end of the season and hopefully at the end I won’t need it, but more than likely I plan on having surgery.”

Because of the injury, Bradshaw has worn a protective boot on his right foot since the third game of the season. And usually he takes a limited amount of snaps only on Friday and gets rest, treatment, rehabilitation and immobilization on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Despite the injury, the running back in Giants jersey still managed to gain 455 yards rushing.

Ravens signed former Super Bowl hero Tyree

On Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens placed tight end Tony Curtis on waivers, in order to make a roster room a big-name player, who made one the most memorable catches in Super Bowl history in 2008. It was former Super Bowl hero wide receiver David Tyree.


Tyree helped the New York Giants last year win the 2008 Super Bowl game against the New England Patriots by pulling down a 32-yard pass on a third-and-five by trapping the ball against his helmet. His reception thus kept alive a drive that resulted in the game-winning touchdown.

However, Tyree was cut by the Giants and had to take off his Giants jersey last month after he played 73 games in Giants jersey. The reason should be that he missed last season and two preseason games this summer because of a series of injuries.

Giants QB Manning’s six-year extension was officially confirmed

Nine days after the New York Giants and quarterback Eli Manning reached a tentative agreement, it was officially confirmed that Manning was given a six-year, $97 million extension.


The Giants would be glad to keep the quarterback through 2015 with the contract paying him $35 million of guaranteed money and an average salary of $15.3 million. The star quarterback has started the last 71 games for the team, the third-longest streak among active quarterbacks at the end of last season and was the first Giants quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards and at least 20 touchdowns in four consecutive seasons.

The contract will also make Manning the highest-paid player in the league, but Manning is just as low-key as usual, saying that he would not feel more pressure under the new contract and do his best for the team as he had done since he put on the giants jersey.

"My job is to play quarterback for the New York Giants and try to win games," he said. "Nothing has changed. My responsibilities have not changed. I am trying to go out there, do my part, play well and lead this team."

Former Giants star Burress will be arraigned on Aug. 20

Except for the updating of the arraignment date, it seems nothing new in the Plaxico Burress case which started from Nov. 29. But anyway, there are always new details released from the new report of old case.

It was reported that when Burress was at the Latin Quarter nightclub on Nov. 29, an unlicensed gun tucked into his waistband slipped down his leg and fired, shooting him in the right thigh. He was then charged of criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

The arraignment was set on Aug. 20. If Burress is convicted of the two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment, he will have to stay in jail for at least three and a half years.
