An easy way to update Twitter and Facebook in China

China is a great place for travel, but it's not a good place for social networking, as most popular social networking sites have been blocked here. It's really awful to have to stay away from Twitter and Facebook for days or even weeks when you are in China. Well, it seems unlikely that the block will be cancelled in near future, people made great efforts and have found quite a few ways to keep updating on Twitter and Facebook, and here I am introducing a really simple one.

Bit.ly is a popular site to shorten URL, but you may also have to know that you can register and share your shortened links with your friends on Twitter and Facebook. Here is the introduction of how to do it.

First of all, register on the site. All you need to do is to input your Email address, pick a username and set a password. Click Signup and a confirmation letter will be sent to the Email address you offered. Check your inbox and click the confirming link as it requires in the letter. Then you can log in with you user name and password.

By registering on Bit.ly, you are enabled to customize your shortened links. Simply copy and paste the links you'd like to shorten into an empty box on the home page, the site will automatically shorten it, and as a member of the site, you are allowed to modify the shortened link. For example, link http://minnesota.sbnation.com/2010/9/14/1689134/favre-offered-1-million-to-dye-his is automatically shortened into http://bit.ly/bWqbTA after you put into the empty box, but you can still click the "customize" button to make the link even shorter, as long as the shorter link is still available (the code behind bit.ly/ could have already been used.) Usually, I do not customize my shortened link as it's already short enough.
