Cowboys beat Eagles 24-0, winning NFC East

The Dallas Cowboys finally turned over from last season’s season-ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles by beating the Eagles 24-0 in this season’s final game. The blowout victory also set the 11-5 Cowboys’ position in the playoffs.

Winning the NFC East, the Cowboys win the host of a rematch in the first round of the playoffs next weekend. Plus, Tony Romo, who threw a pair of early touchdown passes, along with the entire offense, set all sorts of single-season records, including having a winning record after Dec. 1 for the first time since 1996 and ending a nine-game losing streak in season finales. And if they continue to win, there will be a first playoff win since 1996.


Despite opening December with two consecutive losses, the Cowboys soon started a new winning streak by sending the 13-0 New Orleans Saints their first loss of the season, shutting out the Washington Redskins 17-0 and without allowing the Eagles to score a single point in the season finale. So for all those who love Cowboys jerseys, they have enough reasons to believe that the Cowboys will be able to win the playoff this time.

Eagles center Jackson tore knee ligament, ending season on IR

During last Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, the Philadelphia Eagles center Jamaal Jackson unfortunately tore a knee ligament, an injury that ended his 2009 season just a few days before the finale.


The game against the Broncos was the 71st he has started in Eagles jersey. The center had been the Eagles’ only offensive player to play every snap until he got hurt in the first half of last Sunday’s game. Losing him means to lose the team’s anchor.

Jackson had an MRI exam on Monday that revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. It’s an injury that sometimes takes a full year for recovery, so he may not be ready for the start of next season. Right guard Nick Cole thus became the Eagles’ starting center, and second-year pro Mike McGlynn will be the backup. The starting job at right guard may be taken by Stacy Andrews.

Eagles RB Westbrook and WR Maclin will not play against 49ers

The Philadelphia Eagles will play this Sunday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers without running back Brian Westbrook and rookie wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who have been ruled out because of injuries.


Westbrook has not played in his Eagles jersey for the last four games and six of the last seven with a concussion. He practiced on the scout team this week, but the two-time Pro Bowler has not been medically cleared to play in a game, especially under the new NFL rules about players’ return after suffering head injuries. His playing status for next game will be decided after undergoing another test next week.

Maclin left Sunday’s win over the New York Giants with a torn plantar fascia, tissue at the bottom of his left foot. He will be replaced by Reggie Brown, who may share the load with veteran Kevin Curtis. And according to Eagles Coach Andy Reid, Maclin “has made a lot of progress” and may return for the Dec. 27 matchup with the Denver Broncos.

Reid to be Eagles Coach for another three years

The Philadelphia Eagles signed a three-year contract extension with current Coach Andy Reid, thus the coach will stay with the team through 2013 and may finally bring the Eagles to win their first Super Bowl.


The Eagles have plenty of reasons to keep Reid with them. Being considered a laughingstock in the NFL a decade ago, the Eagles entered the first season under Reid 3-13 and finished it 5-11. For the next season, they went 11-5 and made the playoffs five straight years. They also managed to appear in Super Bowl following the 2004 season, although losing the game to the New England Patriots by 24-21. Besides, he had Donovan McNabb put on Eagles jersey as the No. 2 overall pick in the 1999 draft, which turned to be a crucial piece in the rebuilding process.

As the winningest coach in team history, Reid still draws criticism from fans because he has not managed to help the team win a Super Bowl. But I believe as long as he keeps improving the team, he will make it soon or later.

Eagles RB Westbrook consult with concussion specialists before making career decision

The Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has not made his decision about his future after sustaining two concussions in one season. Perhaps he will make one after he discussed with some concussion specialists.


He did. Westbrook visited two concussion specialists in Pittsburgh on Wednesday. After all, having two concussions within three weeks is not a good sign to his NFL career; especially to the running back he had never had concussion during game before his first concussion on Oct. 26 while playing against the Washington Redskins. The next one just came too soon when the Eagles played against the San Diego Chargers, causing a lot to suspect that whether Westbrook, turning into 30, should continue playing football in his Eagles jersey as he became so injury-prone.

According to Eagles head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder, Westbrook will first consult with neuropsychologist Mark R. Lovell before meeting with neurosurgeon Joseph Maroon along with Lovell, who has been consulting with the Eagles’ medical staff on Westbrook’s recovery since his first concussion.

Eagles WR Jackson would like to hire Rosenhaus as new agent

Second-year wide receiver DeSean Jackson has been rumored to fire current agent and hire Drew Rosenhaus as his agent, as a preparation for negotiation on his contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles.


Rosenhaus is an agent famous for negotiating famous players’ contracts. The most famous of his clients is the Buffalo Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens, who caused a lot of controversies while playing for the Eagles in 2004 season and 2005 season.

Although Jackson has not even played two full seasons since putting on Eagles jersey, he has been considered to be one of the best receivers. So the Eagles have to be get ready for a long talk about the negotiation as Rosenhaus will definitely try his best to gain as much benefit as possible for his client, and that is perhaps the very reason why Jackson changes his agent as early as in the middle of the season.
