Titans’ punter Hentrich retired after 17 NFL seasons

The Tennessee Titans punter Craig Hentrich announced Wednesday that he decided to retire after spending 17 seasons in the NFL. Turning 39 in 2010, Hentrich finished his career with an average of 42.9 yards per punt on 1,150 attempts.

“I think overall it was a successful career and I wouldn’t trade a second of it,” Hentrich said in a statement released through the Titans. “Consistency is what I’ve tried to pride myself on my whole career.”

Hentrich’s retirement means the Titans have no more connection to the 1999 Super Bowl team. Putting on Titans jersey in 1998, Hentrich was considered by Coach Jeff Fisher a tremendous athlete at the punter position. He averaged 46.9 yards per punt on nine kicks in 2009 season but suffered a calf injury in the second game against the Houston Texans and was put on injured reserve since then.

Before joining the Titans, Hentrich was with the Green Bay Packers for four seasons. And he made his first Super Bowl appearance in Packers jersey when the Packers won the Super Bowl in 1996.

Packers QB Rodgers did not complain facemask no-call

The Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not complain about a potential facemask penalty that wasn’t called on Sunday night’s overtime playoff loss to the Arizona Cardinals, instead, he was more concerned about his own mistakes in failing to lead the team to a victory.


Facing third-and-6 on the first series of overtime, a cornerback wearing Cardinals jersey blitzed Rodgers, apparently grabbing Rodgers’ facemask, and knocked the ball out. But officials did not call any penalty. The ball then bounced off Rodgers’ foot and into the hands of Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby, who ran for a touchdown to give Arizona a 51-45 victory.

According to NFL rules, “twisting, turning or pulling” the facemask should result in a 15-yard penalty, but in an explanation of the rule issued by the NFL later, it said that the penalty for an “incidental” grab of the facemask was eliminated before the 2008 season.

Packers LB Thompson was hospitalized with neck injury

As we always know, playing football is sometimes dangerous. It caused injuries. Having a concussion may not so serious as it may not affect your life until long later, but injuring neck is something that may take one’s life shortly. Knowing that now, let’s pray for the Green Bay Packers linebacker Jeremy Thompson, who is now in hospital for suffering a neck injury during practice.

According to Packers Coach Mike McCarthy, Thompson got injured on neck near the end of Friday’s practice and remained conscious after the neck stinger. His words perhaps are worthy trust as the coach stayed with Thompson while the linebacker was being loaded into an ambulance.

Thompson is in his second year of wearing pro NFL jersey since being picked by the Packers in the fourth round of 2008. He has spent most time in Green Bay’s special team and missed the team’s first two preseason games with a stinger to a shoulder.
