Titans DE Bosch is ready to hit free agency

According to reports by the Tennessean, eight-year veteran defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch is getting prepared to join the free agent market on Friday with heavy demand, and there have been a few teams including the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles waiting.


Per the reports, the Pro Bowl defensive lineman could only wear back the Titans jersey for the 2010 season for one reason: none of the other teams’ offer meets his demands. The three-time Pro Bowl selection is determined to enjoy all the freedom as an unrestricted free agent.

There is little hope that the Titans could retain Vanden Bosch, who is a gritty technician playing with a relentless motor and is valued almost equal to Julius Peppers and Aaron Kampman. It would be not hard for him to find a new NFL team to play for in 2010 season.

Titans’ punter Hentrich retired after 17 NFL seasons

The Tennessee Titans punter Craig Hentrich announced Wednesday that he decided to retire after spending 17 seasons in the NFL. Turning 39 in 2010, Hentrich finished his career with an average of 42.9 yards per punt on 1,150 attempts.

“I think overall it was a successful career and I wouldn’t trade a second of it,” Hentrich said in a statement released through the Titans. “Consistency is what I’ve tried to pride myself on my whole career.”

Hentrich’s retirement means the Titans have no more connection to the 1999 Super Bowl team. Putting on Titans jersey in 1998, Hentrich was considered by Coach Jeff Fisher a tremendous athlete at the punter position. He averaged 46.9 yards per punt on nine kicks in 2009 season but suffered a calf injury in the second game against the Houston Texans and was put on injured reserve since then.

Before joining the Titans, Hentrich was with the Green Bay Packers for four seasons. And he made his first Super Bowl appearance in Packers jersey when the Packers won the Super Bowl in 1996.

Titans QB Young was not ready to practice yet

The Tennessee Titans Vince Young wants to play Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, although his right hamstring injury still keeps him out of team’s practices.


Young didn’t practice Wednesday, but appeared in sweat shirt, instead of his Titans jersey, and watched his teammates working out with the hood over his head most of the time. A quick healer, Young said he feels much better than when he strained the back of his right leg in last weekend’s 47-7 win over the St. Louis Rams, and he would likely play Sunday’s game as it is a crucial game for the Titans (6-7) to keep their faint playoff hopes alive for another week.

Young has led the Titans to win six of the last seven games, including a five game streak, since he took over Kerry Collins as a starter of the 0-6 Titans. The fourth-year quarterback is 4-0 at home this season where he has completed 69.1 percent of his passes for 854 yards with four touchdowns and only one interception for a 107.3 passer rating.

Not practicing last Friday after aggravating his right knee the day before, he still played very well during last week’s win before he pulled up at the end of a 44-yard run that was the longest of his career. Having completed 6-of-8 for 132 yards with one touchdown pass, he left the field the Titans leading 14-0, a solid foundation for the 47-7 win.

Titans were still looking for better wide receivers

Although the Tennessee Titans are thin at wide receiver after free-agent signee Nate Washington got a hamstring injury, they do not feel like leveling down their standards in choosing a wide receiver.


They have tried a handful of veteran receivers, including Torry Holt, who joined the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Drew Bennett who went the Baltimore Ravens at last. And on Thursday they worked another two free agent wide receivers Matt Jones and Samie Parker as well as a free agent quarterback Cleo Lemon. However, they did not think these veterans good enough and decided not to sign any of them.

Along with the three, wide receiver Jetty Porter also visited the Titans on Thursday morning, but he did not undergo physicals. Porter, Jones and Lemon all played for the Jaguars last season. Porter was released in February, Jones was released in March and Lemon left in June but later signed with Ravens and was cut again on Sept. 1.
